Training at Little Dove

Good training is more than hours logged and forms signed. It is the season where a doctoral student starts to feel like a psychologist: where the theory from class meets a real kid on the other side of the screen, and you work out, with support, what to actually do next. That is the kind of training we care about at Little Dove.

We Accept PhD & PsyD Students Only

Little Dove is a practicum and externship site for doctoral students enrolled in a PhD or PsyD program in clinical or counseling psychology. We are not currently a training site for master’s-level students. If you are a PhD or PsyD student looking for a placement that will give you real clinical responsibility with close support, you are in the right place.

What the Practicum Involves

Our practicum is built around real clinical work inside a virtual group practice. As a trainee, you carry a supervised caseload of children, teens, and college students from across Texas, working on the things families actually come to us for: anxiety, depression, ADHD, family conflict, and emotion regulation.

Along the way you will:

• Deliver evidence-based care, including DBT-informed skills work, with a range of ages and presentations.
• Get exposure to our ADHD evaluations and objective testing, including how tools like QbCheck fit into a full assessment.
• Learn how telehealth changes the room without lowering the standard of care.
• Join didactics and group consultation, where the training team thinks through cases out loud together.

Supervision

You will have individual supervision with a licensed psychologist, plus group supervision alongside the rest of the training team. Our supervisors are hands-on. You will not be left to figure out a hard case on your own, and the goal is always the same: help you grow into a clinician who can think clearly and act with confidence.

Time Commitment

The practicum runs across the academic year, August through May. Trainees are typically on site about 8 to 16 hours per week, usually spread over two or three days.

What You Will Take With You

By the end of the year you will have genuine telehealth experience across ages and presentations, real comfort with evidence-based and DBT-informed approaches, exposure to psychological assessment, and a clearer sense of the kind of psychologist you want to be. You will also have supervisors who know your work well enough to write a letter that actually says something.
