Little Dove Psychology offers self-pay ADHD, autism, and dyslexia evaluations for children and adults ages 6 through 55, online anywhere in Texas. Self-pay evaluations typically start within one week of your first call, with no benefits verification or prior authorization to wait on, and the written report is ready within 14 days of the final testing session. This is the option for families on Cigna, Humana, or any plan we are not in network with, and for anyone who would rather not run an evaluation through insurance.

Who self-pay is for

  • Families on plans we are not in network with, including Cigna and Humana. We give you a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
  • Families on a deadline, such as an upcoming IEP or 504 meeting, a school transition, or a decision that is waiting on an answer.
  • Adults who want a thorough evaluation without involving an employer plan.
  • Families with no insurance. HSA and FSA funds apply.

If you have Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, or Oscar, we are in network and bill your plan. See evaluation availability and our plan pages for Aetna, BCBS of Texas, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, and Oscar.

How it works

  1. A free 15-minute consultation to talk through what you are seeing and whether an evaluation is the right next step.
  2. Scheduling, typically within one week. No insurance paperwork to wait on.
  3. Intake interview and rating scales, then testing from home, anywhere in Texas.
  4. Written report within 14 days of the final testing session, followed by a live feedback session.
  5. A superbill, if you want to submit to your plan for out-of-network reimbursement.

What a virtual evaluation can and cannot include

It can include a diagnosis, a clear picture of how it affects school, work, and home, screening for conditions that look similar, and a report with specific recommendations.

It cannot currently include a complete cognitive battery with a Full Scale IQ, or broader learning disorder assessment in written expression and math, because some of those measures need an in-person component. If you need that, say so on the free consultation and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Frequently Asked Questions About Self-Pay Evaluations

How fast can a self-pay evaluation start?

Self-pay evaluations typically start within one week of your first call. There is no benefits verification or prior authorization step, so once you decide to move forward we go straight to scheduling. The written report is ready within 14 days of the final testing session.

Do you take Cigna or Humana for ADHD or autism testing?

We are not in network with Cigna or Humana. Families on those plans, and on other plans we are not in network with, can do a self-pay evaluation that typically starts within a week. We give you a superbill you can submit to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We are in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, and Oscar, and members of those plans are billed through insurance.

How much does a self-pay evaluation cost?

An ADHD, autism, or dyslexia and reading evaluation is $1,750. A combined ADHD and autism evaluation is $2,500. A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation is $3,200. Each fee covers the interview, rating scales, testing, scoring, a written report, and a live feedback session, with no hourly charges added afterward. HSA and FSA funds apply.

Can I get reimbursed by my insurance?

Possibly. Many plans with out-of-network benefits reimburse part of the cost. After the evaluation we give you a superbill, an itemized receipt with the codes your plan needs, and before you commit we can walk you through the questions to ask your plan about out-of-network coverage.

Is a self-pay evaluation any different from an insured one?

No. It is the same evaluation by a licensed psychologist, with the same objective testing, the same written report, and the same feedback session. The only difference is how it is paid for.

Who can get a self-pay evaluation?

Children, teens, and adults ages 6 through 55 who are located in Texas at the time of the appointment. Evaluations are fully virtual, with evening and weekend times available.

Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?

No. We do not accept Medicaid or CHIP.
